2)Urbanisation: vehicle penetration is increasing due to economic hubs developing and population rise. It calls for more ecologically suitable policies
3)Health burden:Respiratory problems , cardiovascular issues are directly linked to pollution with clear effects seen in national capital
4)strategic intent: as 80% of oil is imported , ecofriendly vehicles can reduce india's dependence

Recent steps by government reiterates focus on clean mobility
such asBS-VI norms , national electric mobility mission plan , FAME scheme for
incentivising shared vehicles in phase 2.
There are
various challenges in transition to such technologies from fossil fuels based vehicles:
1) Regulations and incentives: for long term need to be clarified in order to compel and motivate automobiles into this segment. Vision needs to be complemented with clear directions
2) Infrastructure : such as charging infra for batteries ;standard AC and rapid DC, Road designs, Parking spaces for efficient charging
3) Customer demand by reducing upfront cost as new technologies enter the sector
there is lot the government needs to do by encouraging automobile sector to employ best skill for developing new technologies, developing infrastructure in order to allow smooth transition to electric space from fossil fuels.
