IRRESPECTIVE OF POPULATION CONTROL METHODS, POPULATION CONTROL HAS DIRECT IMPACT ON CHILD SEX BIRTH RATIO IN INDIA. ANALYSE?

.
.
India is projected to cross China as the most populous country in the world by the year 2027. Recent honourable PM speech on population control also shows the importance of controlling population for sustainable development.
Relation of fertility rate with child sex ratio:
1) Sex ratio is in favour of girls if it is not the last child and in favour of boys if it the last child.
2) As per NFHS data, people likely to stop having children after birth of son rather than girl. (Son meta preference)

Reasons:
1) Paternalistic society where male domination exists since early times
2) Incorrect use of ultrasound technology to determine sex before child birth
3) Psychology of the rural people that son brings prosperity
.
.
Solution:
1) Change the mindset and attitudes of people (especially young adults) using Beti bachao beti padhao and other such schemes.
2) Mass media campaigns and active involvement of social and religious institutions.
3) Government could consider a ‘mothering allowance” to the mother for first six years after the birth of a girl child.
4) Introducing gender-based quotas in colleges and work places
5) Couples having only daughters could be eligible for a higher than the normal universal old age pension, and even starting earlier from the age of 55 years.

It is high time for government to take initiatives to address the skewed child sex ratio which is prevalent for many decades in the country. With population explosion already causing natural resource fast depletion government to take measures for sustainable development considering future generation requirement.
