GROWING REGIONALISM IS A THREAT TO FEDERALISM PRINCIPLES OF INDIAN CONSTITUTION. CRITICALLY COMMENT?

.
India is well known among the world for its rock-solid unity in diversity. It binds citizens from different regions, background and language to stand together for their motherland.People worship their religion as one of their top most priority. Regionalism means the world to the present day Indian.
Everyone has a special liking to the place they have devoted they live in from ancestral times, termed as regionalism It has several sides-

PROS-
1. Helps in regional development.
2. It places light on the region who are often ignored under the Govt. policies. ex- tribals.
3. To preserve the cultural identity.
.
.
CONS-
1. Regional leaders sometime misuse their power in self-interest which leads to misguided youth. Ex- In J& K,it lead to huge violence and destruction.International communities also start interfering in regional matters then. this makes situation worst. like UN council for human right appealed to India to restore right of people in J & K after reorganisation bill.
2. One such example is that of khalistan movement which aims at uniting the whole sikh community to create a seperate country.
3. It shatters the feeling of unity in diversity completely. people think like regional citizen above being a Indian citizen.
Constitutional framework needs to be designed for this. Penalties on those who create violence in name of regionalism should be dealt with strict law and order.

Hence regionalism can bring great positive changes in developing an underdeveloped region but when exercised beyond a particular limit it becomes threat to national interest.
