Public
Private partnership is an arrangement between the government and private party
the arrangement can be services or for physical assets. NITI Aayog has muted
the PPP model health sector in district hospitals.
Potential of PPP model in health
sector:
1. Investments: It will increase the investments in health sector which have been staying stagnant (1-1.5 %)of GDP.
2.Accessibilty: New health care centres may come up near the remote areas which was difficult due to paucity of funds.
3.Proffessionalism: The private sector may bring its world class expertise and professionalism in the health sector which the public health care lacked.
4. Best in class infra and medical equipment and cutting edge technology can be utilized.
5..The involvement of both private and govt will increase transparency and responsibility in health care which will help wining over public trust in govt hospitals which lacked in the past.

However there are certain challenges:
1.Involvement of private sector may increase the cost of treatment which will impact the image of welfare state as poor may not be able to afford.
2.There can be conflict of interest as government would try to minimize the cost whereas private persons will try to maximize profits. Further no private sector would get involved without intention of profits.
3.Because of involvement of private, the doctors may ask not to prescribe generic drugs, which further add to cost of patients out of pocket expenditure which already 70% of the hospitalization costs in India.

So
with eliminating the negatives, in the best way possible the PPP potential to
be tapped as of now inorder to achieve our SDG (goal -2).
