RAYAPROLU SUBBARAO (1892–1984)


          Rayaprolu Subbarao was a great patriot and Telugu nationalist and was one among the pioneers of modern Telugu literature. He is known as Abhinava Nannaya. He praised the (past) greatness of Telugu warriors to awaken the sleeping Telugu pride.
He was born in Garlapadu village, Guntur district. His learned Sanskrit and Telugu from Avvari Subramanya Sastri. He educated in Bapatla, Kakinada and Rajahmundry. He was the professor and head of telugu department in Osmania University for 25 years. He was the chief editor of Andhra Maha Bhagavatam published by Telugu Academi.
He introduced the concept of "Amalina Shringara Tatvamu" and began a new era in Telugu literature. His romantic literature is considered as the watershed in Telugu literature for its modernity of themes such as naturalism, rural life, a sense of history, libertarianism, patriotism, and fierce nationalism.
His poem Edesamegina Endukalidina……, is very popular and Keep up your nation's whole dignity. He was awarded Sahitya Akademi Award for his poetic work Misra Manjari in 1965.
His notable works are Anumati (Permission), Bhaja Govindamu, Soundarya Lahari, Sundara Kanda, Doota Mattebhamu, Lalitha, Madhukalasamu, Meghaduta, Uttararama Charita. He translated many books in to teluu some of them are Trunakankanamu, Andhravali, Kashta Kamala, Ramyalokamu, Swapnakumaramu, Telugutoata, Vanamala, Misra Manjari. Kannepatalu, Jadakutchulu.
